Live Oak Counseling Center

Situated in the heart of Shandon is a quaint house that was a once-upon-a-time family home.  Today, this quaint house is home to Live Oak Counseling Center (LOCC), a non-profit organization originally founded as a ministry of several local churches to provide professional and affordable mental health counseling and outreach for those struggling with life issues regardless of religious affiliations and those who choose not to affiliate. LOCC welcomes clients of all socioeconomic levels, gender identities, races, ethnicities, ability levels, sexual orientations, and nationalities.

The longest resident of 600 King Street is a stately Live Oak aptly named Allon, the Hebrew name for strong oak, who took up residence in the front yard some 100 years ago. His deep, strong roots have helped him stand tall through weather of every kind, celebrate the changing seasons of life without bending, and give the gift of shade to all he meets.  “Throughout our 27 years, Allon has watched those who enter with heavy hearts leave us a little lighter,” said Nancy Smith, Executive Director.

“Much like Allon, we strive to help our clients develop strong roots, weather changes, and celebrate life’s seasons without bending. We need your help to provide shade to all we meet. Even the smallest of acorns is a gift that will help give new life to someone in need of spiritual nourishment and guidance”, she said.
